Yes. Open windows promote the passage of outside contaminants into your home, compromising the level of air quality and purification the all of our air purifiers work to create and maintain. It is recommended to turn the unit off while windows are left open.
The Guardian Angel is designed so that all the air drawn into it is expelled through the filter, with none of the air leaking past it. This mechanical design standard is referred to as “Sealed HEPA” or “True HEPA.” Air cleaners simply labeled HEPA have a HEPA filter, but not all air necessarily passes through it.Air cleaner filters marketed as “HEPA-like” will typically use a filter of a similar construction to HEPA, but without the filtering efficiency.
Negative ionization is a process that mechanically charges air particles so that they attract to each other and clump together, making the particles larger and easier to remove from the air.
Photocatalytic Oxidation or PCO, is a technology that occurs when UV light reacts with the titanium dioxide (TiO2) coating on the inside of the filter cartridge, producing powerful oxidizers in the air that help to seek and eliminate harmful contaminants in the passing air.

In our Beyond Guardian, Hydroxyl Blaster, & Pure & Clean, the ActivePure® cell(s) need to be replaced every 24 months. In our Guardian Angel the UVC bulb is LED (rated for the life-time of the air purifier) & the outer pre-filter needs to be washed or replaced every 12 months.
If you need to order new filter(s), UVC bulb(s) or ActivePure® Cell(s) contact our Air Service Department at 1.866.444.1050 or email support@aqualiteus.com.
Don't worry this is a common industry occurrence with both new and operating air purifiers...
For new air purifiers "out-of-the-box" an odor may occur for the first 3-4 days of usage. This is caused by the natural material odors of the packaging & product components. If the odor continues to persist after 4 days or if you any have questions reach out to Air Service Department at 1.866.444.1050 or email support@aqualiteus.com.
For operating air purifiers the odor may be from the HEPA filter indicating the need for replacement. To troubleshoot check the HEPA filter for severe discoloration, uncleanliness, or possible contamination. If the HEPA filter appears to need replacement a new filter may solve the odor problem. When replacing the filter wait 2-3 days of usage for the odor to disappear. If the odor continues to persist after 3 days or if you have any questions reach out to Air Service Department at 1.866.444.1050 or email support@aqualiteus.com.

While the Guardian Angel has a built-in compartment for aromatherapy, only dry types should be used since the material structure of the unit is petroleum based. Using oils would damage the structure of the unit. Using other liquid forms could also spill and cause damage to the unit.
For our systems with 10” diameter tanks that include our bacteriostatic carbon filter media, SilverShield® Hygene®, the carbon must be replaced every 112,500 gallons of water used, which for a typical family of 4 is about 12-18 months. Our 8” diameter tanks have a replacement interval of 75,000 gallons, and our 12” diameter tanks have a replacement interval of 150,000 gallons. Our smart iGen® series measures the amount of water that is filtered and informs you when it is time to change the filter media by saying “Call for service” on the display. For our older generation systems, you will need to estimate how often the maintenance needs to be done based on the size of your family and an estimate of your water usage. Our systems that use salt for back flushing need to have the salt replaced periodically. Keep the salt at least half full in the salt tank.
SilverShield® Hygene® lasts for 112,500 gallons of water. For Clarius™ and Goodspring™ systems, the Purifex® media should be replaced at the same time as the SilverShield® Hygene®. For Goodspring™ 10” systems with ScaleMax™, the ScaleMax™ media should be replaced every 5 years or every 375,000 gallons of water. For Goodspring™ 13” systems with ScaleMax™, the ScaleMax™ media should be replaced every 6 years or every 500,000 gallons of water. Our smart iGen® series systems inform you when it is time to change the filter media by saying “Call for service” on the display. Those systems are measuring the water that gets filtered by the system. For our prior generation of systems, you will need to estimate how often the maintenance needs to be done based on an estimate of your water usage.
In order to continue to filter your water as expected, it is important to have regular maintenance. Having regular maintenance ensures your system will continue to provide you with top quality water.
The maintenance requires special materials and tools. If you want to do the maintenance yourself, you are welcome to do so. To maintain the warranty on your system, we recommend contacting our professional service team to make sure everything is done correctly. Any brand of extra coarse water softener salt or pellet type water softener salt. Be sure to check the brine tank every month to month and a half. Add one bag of salt as needed to keep the tank at least half full.
Puronics® manufactures water softeners, no-salt water filtration systems and problem water treatment systems. The primary difference between the Defender™, Hydronex® and Terminator® is the tank construction and material. The Filtramax™ is like a Terminator® with an extra layer of filter media. No-salt water filtration systems filter the water, but they do not soften it. The Goodspring™ BWS and Goodspring™ BPS both include ScaleMax™, which reduces scale build-up. They differ in tank material. The problem water treatment systems are designed to treat specific contaminants, such as hydrogen sulfide and iron.
